Toddler Play Board

Reader Submission for the Pinstrosiversary Challenge:

Like a lot of moms out there, I have a VERY busy 18 month old boy. His curiosity always leads him to things that  he shouldn't be playing with, naturally. (mostly the bathroom toilet or an unattended laptop computer)  In an attempt to find an activity or something fun and safe for him to do on Pinterest, I came across the above Pin for a play board filled with latches and hardware. PERFECT! It was very straight forward and looked easy to make.
I made a trip out to Home Depot and easily found a lot of things that could go on the board. Sometimes, it was even hard to narrow down what exactly I was going to buy.  The choices and creativity are endless with this project! I let my son pick some things he liked too. We had a blast!
After assembling all the parts needed, it was very easy to screw everything on. Once I got the latch board looking like the original Pin I found, I made it a little more… awesome! I painted it in bold colors - adding shapes and designs. The best part is the glow-in-the-dark puff paint I put on top. This is a definite Pin-Win in my opinion - my son hardly leaves it alone! It also helps develop fine motor skills.
My only complaint from the whole experience is the cost! All that hardware really adds up and some of the “cooler” pieces were pretty pricey on their own. I almost spent $50!!! I would suggest hitting the clearance rack first or maybe try recycling old hardware you already own. All in all - I’m glad I splurged a little. My son loves it and it was fun to make. It even keeps him out of the bathroom toilet!
