I was looking for something easy enough for my step-son to make for his 11thbirthday party. He likes helping out in the kitchen and I thought this would be perfect.
I couldn’t find the caramel bits that were used in the original blog post, so I got a bag of regular wrapped Kraft caramels. We put them in a glass bowl with a little bit of water and melted it in the microwave.
Everything went as planned. He had washed and dried each grape. He stuck a toothpick in each one. He dipped them in the caramel. He dipped them in the crushed peanuts (they used pecans, but we wanted peanuts). He placed each one carefully onto the plastic-wrapped platter so that they did not touch.
It looked perfect. A true “Pin Win,” if I do say so myself. We placed it on the top shelf of the fridge for the night and the next morning we found…….
The caramel slid down the sides of the grapes and formed little puddles of caramel and peanuts. They still tasted great, you know, after you picked the grape up by the toothpick and then pried the puddle off of the tray. Half a dozen pre-teen boys gobbled them up anyway, so it was a success of sorts.
