Today we have a "Honey U Made a Pinstrosity", these of course are all said with love and a feeling of camaraderie. We have ALL been in a tight spot when it comes to crafting/cooking/sewing/baking/ and general DIY-ing.

So what happened?! Sarah read the directions and followed them, however the original blog does not specify what type of food coloring you should use with the white chocolate (the color isn't mandatory, it just adds an extra minty feel to it).
Chocolate and water don't mix, and original run of the mill food coloring that you can get for a dollar with the cute little tear drop shaped containers is a water based color.
Chocolate needs colored chocolate melts (they look like giant chocolate chips and they come in all sorts of fun colors, you can sometimes find them at WalMart or at your local grocery store, but I would suggest Hobby Lobby or Michael's for stuff like this). With that being said, you could also use an oil based food color, or a powdered food color. Any of these should work exponentially better with chocolate than anything that is water based.
Water based colors can cause your chocolate to seize up and clump (just like in the 2nd picture).
So now you know! Play around with recipe, maybe try different types of food coloring and see what you prefer. And then, when you have left overs from all the Puppy Chow you just made, (yeah right!) send it my way I will gladly take it off your hands and put it onto my hips, I mean lips ;)

Where is the milk chocolate part? looks like it is not finished...keep going it may improve.
ReplyDeleteBracken Fam- the green clumps are the seized white chocolate, so adding the milk chocolate at that point wouldn't have done any good.
