The Kett-Files: Keeping Up Appearances, Day 4

**For one week (and only one week, thank goodness!) Emilee and Marquette attempted to live a life that matched up to Social Media Standards, mostly just to show what that could look like in real life and how ridiculous the idea is. Click Day 1, Day 2, or Day 3 to see how the week went so far.**

Sometimes you can have the perfect plan, clothes all laid out, chicken in to marinate overnight, and a way to make the day go smoothly and then life throws you a curve ball and none of your planning or preparations really matter because life has other plans.

I woke up on Day 4 feeling like my head exploded. I couldn't move without pain shooting through my skull. My sinuses were on fire, my nose was running (and is now raw from being wiped), and my throat ached. I couldn't even stand up, the pain in my head was bad enough. Apparently this nasty cold is going around town where you want to die for a full day and then the next week it's just a cold, and I caught it. Hooray.

There was nothing Pinterest/Facebook/Insta-Perfect about my day today. I took one picture all day at the height of my Tylenol dosage when I only wanted to go to sleep for a week, instead of feeling like dying.

Pictures of the day could have included the lavish meal of ramen noodles Cameron made for me for lunch (and boy oh boy did that hit the spot!). I could have showed you the lovely soft dishcloth we finally found for me to use as a hanky because our toilet paper could be named John Wayne. Or I could have showed you screenshots of the 11 episodes of Netflix shows I watched because that gave me something to do where I didn't have to move my head but I wasn't staring at the wall.

There really was nothing you wanted to see pictures of. I'm sure you can all imagine as you've had sick days as well.

So, no chicken was cooked, I didn't get out of pj's, Darrow didn't do his finger painting activity, we didn't pull up the children's scriptures to go through with Darrow (as Day 4 for us landed on Sunday and we're trying to make Sunday more Sabbathy), I didn't wear my cute outfit or fix my hair in that style I had all picked out, and the house is thrashed as Darrow pretty much had free reign of the house while Cameron was at early morning church meetings (he's the clerk for our congregation and goes to meetings each Sunday before church starts).

At first I was a little panicked. This threw off my schedule. Didn't the germs know this was "Keeping Up Appearances" Week?! I had too much to do! But, "Life isn't Pinterest Perfect". There are things you simply cannot help. There are days where survival is way more important. It's days like this that make the idea of trying to live up to social media standards seem extra ridiculous, even on good days when everyone's healthy. This has turned into it's own lesson for me.

And part of that lesson is to always have the aloe infused Kleenex stashed away for emergencies such as this.

  2. Being sick is one of the roughest curve balls that life seems to throw at us all of the time! I second the idea of having the soft lotion tissues on hand. It is one of the things I take to friends when they are sick.
p.s. I also take a case of the lotion tissues to friends when they have a death in the family. There is always a lot of crying, so they need lots of soft tissues.

    1. And the Best Friend Award goes to Sherron! That's genius! No one ever thinks to take Kleenex to a sick friend. You are a smart woman!

  3. I feel so bad for you just seeing that first picture! Yeah, sometimes survival has to be tops on the list. I'm glad you had your two men there with you.
