BBQ Bombs

Easy dinners are my favorite. Finding a recipe like this is gold:
The Original Pin

BBQ Boat Gold. That's what Amanda thought as well. She says, "I saw these and figured they would be a yummy easy meal for my boyfriend and I. Little did I know, I was creating atomic BBQ bombs in the oven..."

The Pinstrosity

Mushroom clouds of dough and BBQ. So what happened here?

Amanda got looking at the original recipe to check what had turned her BBQ boats into BBQ bombs and found what may have been the detonator. The recipe calls for "1 (12oz.) tube refrigerated biscuits" but taking a look at the picture in the recipe we find an additional secret to making this recipe work as shown...do you see it?

The biscuits aren't just your normal everyday size biscuits, their the jr. size, which is why Amanda's full size biscuits morphed into atomic proportions.

How to fix this?
  • Looking at the original recipe, you don't want the dough to be too thick in the pan so that it will form the right sized boats. As all biscuit dough is not created equal, you may have to bring out the inner mad scientist for a minute or two. The dough in the recipe appears to be about 1/4" thick in the cups and they don't reach all the way to the top. If the biscuit size you're using gives you more dough than that, pull a glop off and reshape the dough in the cup. Later you can combine all the extra "glops" into biscuits so dough isn't wasted.
  • If you don't want to be the mad scientist, buy the Jr. size or cut the regular biscuits down by about 1/2.

  3. My family makes these. We call them Bar-B-Q meat cups. Along with the bbq sauce, we add brown sugar. I think for a pound of meat we add 1/3 cup of brown sugar with just enough sauce to lightly coat the meat (we don't really use precise measurements). Also we use half a biscuit and stretch the dough before we line the cupcake pan with it. Then you put the meat in the cup and bake it according to the biscuit can, take them out of the oven 2 minutes early, and add the cheese. Then stick them back in the oven for the remaining 2 minutes. Hope I helped! I always volunteer to make these at my house because they are so awesome!!

  4. Was going to post what Carly posted....we make these too, we call them Bar-B-Q Cups....use half the dough (flaky biscuits are easier to divide in half)...stretch slightly, and mold into muffin pan that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Yummy!

  7. My in laws make these occasionally, except I think they might use crescent roll dough and they use a muffin tin. They come out great!

  8. This is an old recipe my grandma used to make - but it was called JackPots and it was done in a square baking dish. You press the crescent rolls into the bottom and up the sides of a greased baking dish to form the "crust", then add the BBQ beef, sprinkle with cheese and bake per the instructions on the crescent roll container. Works every time. And reheated tastes just as yummy the next day.

  9. We make these all the time. I make them in the mini muffin pan so they cook up faster and can be perfect party foods as well. I take the normal size biscuits and with my scissors cut the biscuits into thirds (like pie graph sections). Spray muffin pan with cooking spray. Press each third of biscuit into the cups well. Then, I take the pre-cooked shredded barbecue meat in the plastic tub found at HEB or Walmart (HEB is my fav)and spoon or fork it into the cups. Then, top with shredded cheese. Bake @ 350 degree oven for 8-10 minutes. 10 minutes is perfect for my oven. My husband absolutely LOVES these!

  11. we call them taco cups and use regular biscuit but press them down in the center to create an indentation and a place for the filling to go. They are delicious with seasoned taco beef!

  13. Anyone know what these "biscuits" would be called in Australia? To us, biscuits are what pretty much everyone else calls "cookies".

    2. Tarmie - English muffins work well too. I was being a bit lazy when I made mine, so I just grabbed some from Woolies.
