Happy To Help Husband Hazards-Halloween Edition

If you looked at Pinterest for more than three seconds you would instantly know, it's a woman's world. Pinterest conversations go something like this, Women: "Pinterest?! Oh my word I LOVE Pinterest!!! I just saw this one pin where..." ,you know the rest. Whereas on the other end of the spectrum it looks something like this, Men: "Pinterest? What is that? Can I eat it?" (for some men that statement is an embellishment  for others a total truth).
Well women, be inspired, there are a few men out there who are more than willing to jump in and help out with our Pinterest projects, and Mandy sent us her Pinstrosity, where her husband was a little too gungho.

The Original                                     The Pinstrosity

Here's what happened: "Hey Adam, I saw on Pinterest where you drill holes into a pumpkin, and put a candle in it and it looks cool, we should try that."

Saturday afternoon she walks out the door and sees what appears to be a pumpkin chunkin'! Pumpkin flying everywhere!! What a sweet hubby to try to help, little did he know that that wasn't quite what she was talking about...
Moral of the story, make sure you explain to your man the details of the project, or you may end up with an awesome story to tell and Pinstrosity to show for it (which isn't all that bad, and keeps us blogging!!).

P.S. This would be one of those awesome opportunities to turn a project gone south into a Pin Win, any ideas readers?!
I'm off to decorate for fall, it has come and there isn't a second to lose!
 Happy Wednesday Pinstrosipeeps!

  1. paint it, and put a whole bunch of fake eyeballs in it! it would look so cool~
another, less spooky idea, would be if you could find bouncy balls to pop in, if they were iridescent, you could put a fake candle in and it would be so cute!
or if old golf balls fit in the holes, you could push them in and paint the whole thing - and then put a face on it. it would look like a lumpy bumpy monster~

  2. It's reminds me of Charlie Brown's Halloween costume on "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." However, I don't know how to fix it so everyone knew that is what it is supposed to be. :-)

  3. You know what? I like the pinstrous pumpkin much better. It has character.

  4. clean out the pumpkin so it won't mold and use it at the top of the topiary that you just did in another post! Fill the holes with fall foliage.

  5. Maybe a different direction and have rats coming and going out of the holes??

  6. Well, since it looks like swiss cheese, she could put a cute little mouse next to it, with it's head stuck in one of the holes!

  7. The holes look about the right size to put those battery operated tea lights in...you could have flames on the outside of your pumpkin?

  8. If you rub pumpkin pie spice on the underside of the lid, and put a tea light inside, your house will smell magnificent. I do this every year, and the way your pumpkin is perforated is perfect.

    1. If you went with the fragrance option, one way to dress up the pumpkin so that it's a little prettier, is to add a little sparkle. Use some orange glitter, watered down Elmer's, and a paintbrush to outline and glitter the holes. It's a little more understated than glittering the entire thing, and it helps hod moisture in those edges a tad longer. (not much, but every little bit helps with real pumpkins)

Whatever you choose do with it, you should keep us all posted.

  9. maybe you could put oasis (green florist styrofoam) in it and then use the holes to put big fall flowers into it, like a planter?

  10. She should buy plastic little mice to poke through the holes, spiders too!

  11. This makes me laugh - my husband is FOREVER complaining about helping me with my Pinterest projects! It's nice to see a man who is happy to help ;-)

  12. Fill in the holes with fall flowers! Maybe anchor them with a foam ball in the center of the pumpkin?
Oh, snap...I might actually do this now.

  13. Put Florist Foam inside and use the holes for Fall floral arrangements. She could also put in Halloween (or Fall) accents that are on a long, thin dowel spruce (or spice) it up even more.

  14. You could cover the holes in colored cellophane (or candy wrappers, to stay in holiday spirit). Green would look icky, multicolors would look crazy, red might look evil...

  15. I kinda like the big holes! More light to make your pumpkin glow. Reminds me of big polka dots. :D

  16. I'd like to see that pumpkin lit up, I think looks nice and would probably look great when its actually lit up! Its kind of like polka dots. I'm actually really amazed that the pumpkin stayed in one piece.

  17. I'm seriously LOLing.... Too cute. My mom actually made a cute pumpkin with big holes like this but she super glued fake mice running in and out of the holes. Maybe try that to save it.

  18. She can get a bunch of plastic rats and have them entering the pumpkin through some holes and some exiting the pumpkin through some holes! I saw that in a magazine once and keep forgetting to do it. :)

  19. Her hubs made a polka dot pumpkin! I wonder what it would look like with a candle in it. What kind of drill did he use??? Those were some big holes! I'm a sucker for anything pumpkin! Fun post!

  20. Several people suggested the mouse idea, and I concur. What better way to fix a Pinstrosity than with another pin, like this one: http://www.marthastewart.com/274309/outdoor-halloween-decorations/@center/276965/halloween#/273139

  21. What about wrapping ribbons through the holes?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hmmm, I know this is post is from last year. But it could look cute with ribbon threaded through each row. Maybe a different color for each row with a bow on whatever one makes up the middle.
