Ooey Gooey Cookie Creamy

All you have to say is "Cookies and Cream" and I'm in. Even after seeing the trouble Anita had with this Pinstrosity, I still want to try it out. Mmmmm.

No Bake Chewy Cookies and Cream Bars, using three of the best ingredients invented...Oreos, marshmallows and butter (which would probable make this Paula Deen approved). They sound amazing, which is what Anita thought as she jumped into this project. Although hers had some...issues.

The Pinstrosity

Let me just share what Anita has to say about her adventure:

"The first problem I had was trying to mix the Oreo cookie crumbs with the melted marshmallows and butter - what a thick, sticky mess, very hard to mix! The marshmallow goo kept getting really thick, - almost hard - before I had it all mixed in, so I had to keep sticking the whole thing back into the microwave to try to remelt it - "try" being the operative word."

"I finally felt like I had achieved reasonable success with mixing... Then came trying to get the mess into the pan.  It was so thick and sticky that I could hardly get it out of the bowl, and tore the foil in a couple of places trying to spread it all out."

"I finally got as much as I was going to get in the pan, into the pan. It looked gross, grey and unappetizing, so I sprinkled it with powdered sugar to disguise it."

"I left it to set, but it didn't; it just stayed gooey, so I refrigerated it.  Then it hardened up so much it was like a solid brick, and was completely stuck to the foil! Double checking the recipe, I saw no mention of buttering the foil first, and I couldn't get it off the "bars." I left it back out a while to see if it would soften up enough to get the foil off, but it only got gooey again and the foil was still stuck on like it was glued on."

"I finally gave up, but covered it and put it in our laundry room fridge till I could figure out a way to salvage it, and figure it out I did, a couple of weeks later."

"I was finishing another Pinterest project that required the oven, so I stuck in my Oreo brick so it would soften a bit again, then went at the foil. I finally managed to tear and scrape it all off (with plenty of "bar" along with it,) then cut it all into small bite-sized pieces and dipped them in melted chocolate. They were great! They were nice and soft in the middle, with a lovely chocolate coating.  I brought them to church for after the service, and they all went in no time!"

So what went wrong? I haven't tested this one out yet to know for sure, but here are some theories I will be testing when I do.

-If you look at the original picture, their oreos are blended in thoroughly, but you can still see large chunks and veins of white marshmallows. So you do want to mix the oreos all the way through, but you don't want to over mix it. I don't know if this had anything to do with them not setting up completely or not, but it could be worth a try. I know you can stretch and melt a marshmallow a bit and have it set back up, but a marshmallow can only take so much and after too much messing with, it's going to stay very gooey and sticky and messy (oddly I learned that one from playing pranks in college). I'm imagining these to be an oreo version of rice crispy treats...so they will still be slightly sticky, but they shouldn't be insanely gooey.
-Most of the time I try to use tin foil, it turns out like Anita's adventure...it just doesn't want to work for me. When I try these I'll probably either use parchment paper, wax paper, or just really butter the heck out of my pan before putting the goop in it. I've had way better success from those methods than with tin foil.

  1. I'd love to hear how it goes, I probably did overmix it. Anita

  2. Mine turned out about the same. I used wax paper and I'm pretty sure I even buttered it. It did not come off.

  3. Mine turned out that way too :(

  4. I made these for a Mary Kay party. They came out sooooooo yummy!!!! I used parchment paper on the bottom in an 8x8 glass pyrex pan, and I sprayed it with pam. Mixing the marshmallows and oreos was really hard and I had my doubts as to weather it would come out or not. I finally decided what I had mixed was good enough and transfered it over. I used wax paper to press it into the pan. I peeled the wax paper off VERY slowly and it came right off. There was some stuck, but I just licked it off ;)

  5. I tried this with my boyfriend and it work just like the picture. it tasted really good too. not quite sure what could've gone wrong, but if you do it right it works well:)don't give up! haha.

  6. I did this sometime ago. I used Double Stuff oreos (instead of regular) and I used an entire big bag of mini marshmallows (instead of the amount of BIG marshmallows the recipe suggests) makes mixing much easier, and doesn't turn into a brick. Was amazing!

  7. It just looks like a Rice Krispie Treats recipe with oreo crumbs instead of the cereal. We always buttered a tupperware container and pushed the mixture into it with buttered wax paper

  8. I tried the Nutter Butter version of this recipe by Picky Palate. Awful! Tossed the whole thing in the trash. I think I left the Nutter Butter bars in the food processor too long (so it was a fine blend rather than chunky) and when I mixed in the marshmallows and put it in the dish, it just became a hard block. Very hard on the teeth. :(

  9. I made these and although mine were successful They were very hard to mix and I managed to get cookie dust all over my kitchen. I just sprayed my hands with cooking spray and used my hands to mix after I broke my favorite wooden spoon. I melted the marshmellows on the stove using the same method as making rice crispy treats. that way I could mix in a metal bowl which holds heat better.

  10. I had this EXACT same problem except that mine had too many marshmallows somehow, and I even used less than the recipe asked for and more oreos than it asked for to try and avoid that on the second time making this. No success!!

  11. I haven't made these before, but I have made quite a bit of fondant which uses melted marshmallows. Spread crisco all over your spoon and hands before mixing it up. It feels gross at first, but it def keeps it from sticking for a while. I would also use wax paper and add a little powered sugar to the mix to make it harden up, but still be edible. Hope that helps! I'm not huge on oreos, so I probably won't make these, but I would love to hear if my tips helped at all.

  12. they sound a lot like rice krispie treats. Usually, if your rice krispie treats are super hard, it's because there's too much butter. I'd recommend backing off the butter a bit!!!

  13. Worked when I tried this one as well. Delish!

  14. Done this one many times, can't get it to look "pretty" but they are so so yummy

  15. This worked! I made them in a square brownie pan, and used pam on the bottom first, and sprayed my hands with it too, so it wouldn't stick. I took it out with my hands, and put it in the pan. Left it there for roughly 15-20 minutes, and the mix was in one big rectangle. I then used a spatula to cut them, wrapped them in waxed paper individually, and viola! delicious!

  16. I've made these several times, and let me tell you, they are as delicious as they are easy! I don't know what the problem would be, except that maybe spray some Pam on the foil/parchment paper. Yes, they are hard to mix, but so worth it! I always crush my Oreos in a ziploc with a rolling pin. In a food processor, they may turn out too fine. These really are so easy though and SO good.

  17. I made this recipe a while ago (you can see the post here.) Mine came out of the pan just fine. I used foil sprayed with Pam.

I do not recommend using mint Oreos. Sure they taste great, but they look hideous. Although, I guess they'd be great for a Halloween party.

  18. You could try using the marshmallow cream instead of whole marshmallows. Idk if this will help but sounds good huh? lol

  19. Made them and ate them and LOVED THEM!

  20. I just made these last night and they came out pretty good! A little tooo gooey ooeyy but just as good. I think I might have ground the Oreos a little to much and melted the marsh mellows a tad bit more than needed but over all they were a success! I used the large marsh mellows and double stuffed Oreos, I also heated the marsh mellow and butter on the stove instead of the microwave. I used the recipe from Picky Plate and that said to line the pan with aluminum foil and let it hang over the edges so you can pull the whole thing out to cut it when its done & it didn't say anything about buttering the foil but I did anyone just from experience with past recipes and it worked wonderfully. no stickage at all and I pulled it right out of the pan to cut the bars and it worked well.
