Love that witty title? Yeah...no wit here today. I've been sitting here thinking for 10 minutes just on the title and finally gave up. Oh well.
Marquette here. Em's headed out of town, so I'm taking over for her for a few days. This has been a busy summer for us both! Anyway, we've got a double Pinstrosity for you this evening! Two different pins, but one same general idea. The Canvas Quote.
The Original Pins

The Pinstrosities
"Let your faith be bigger than your fear." |
"You are Beautiful" |
"I want to be the one to walk in the sun" |
So lesson number 1, read the directions (that seems to be a common theme...but we know we all do it) and use the right supplies (but at the same time, props to Ariel for just jumping in and seeing what she could come up with on her own...I do love people who will dive in head first and let their creativity work through).
But how to fix the bleeding through problem. As Megan over at the Brassy Apple says in her Canvas Quote post, there isn't a magic fix to this, but she does give some great ideas on how to try to minimize the running and bleeding of the paint.
"1) hold your paint can further away from the letters. this means more coats of paint but possibly less bleeding underneath.
2) Some of my paint did bleed a bit but I had better success when the canvas was "treated" and not a brand new "slick" canvas. The one I covered with fabric I had the best success with. The contact paper "grabbed" onto the fabric better.
3) Here's a gal that tried my tutorial and had GREAT success! notice they type of canvas or artwork she started with too! I hope this tips help! "
I read an instruction somewhere (sorry!) to modge podge over your letters before painting. Then it leaks under the letter and provides a block to the paint so it stays a crisp line. Haven't tried it, but the logic is there...
ReplyDeleteI think the first one turned out pretty cool. But it seems like Skylar ran out of room for the lettering.
ReplyDeleteTo prevent bleeding, you need to use a clear coat spray before you apply the paint. It will seal all the edges nicely.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, spray can 101...always do thin coats. It will take several thin application but the results will mak it worth the extra time.
wow im so excited my Pinstrosity is on here woohoo(:
ReplyDeleteLOL I tried this and mine looked EXACTLY like the top one... was sooo disappointed! Definitely going to try again tho and will try the clear coat first!
ReplyDeleteMy first attempt was done with a metallic paint..totally ran together, but my cut out stayed in place. The second attempt was done with regular spray paint and a light layer ..this time the letters wouldn't stay on the fabric!
ReplyDeleteYou could also first pray with a clear spray paint, which will help to seal the sides of the letters so that no colored spray paint will go through. Then, once that has dried, spray the color on top. That should help!!
ReplyDeleteMy 3 year old son and I made this for a father's day present, but the problem was I forgot to write "love" on it. So it says "Happy Father's Day Matthew". At least it gave everyone a good chuckle that my son Matthew has a Father's day picture.
