Dandeflames

Em's with our friend Camille for her graduation vacation (we're so proud of her!). The poor things have to go to Disneyland and the beach. I know...I'm sure they wish they could have stayed here in the wind and dust, but they aren't as lucky as us. Oh well. ;) I wish I could post every day this week, but life has dictated otherwise, so I'm going to just hit Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. We'll get back to normal soon we hope.

Today's Pinstrosity is a quick one (the clutch went out on the car, so we need to go take care of that before work). It's another in the saga of "Don't trust all the captions you see on Pinterest." Behold:

The Original Pin:

The caption under the pin reads "Dandelion on fire. Bucket list for this summer... It burns all different colors! :) so neatttt." So Jesse decided to give it a go.

The Pinstrosity:

"There were no general directions to follow, just light a dandelion on fire...so we did that and it burned super fast and just looked like any normal plant on fire, orange flames..so that pin is not true and dandelions do not burn in different colors."

So what did I do? I turned to Google and typed in "dandelion on fire" to see other people's results.

So....dandelions don't produce rainbow fire as they burn. But, they do produce fire when they burn and you know how we love fire (responsibly, of course). Only this time of year we don't hardly want to even look at a matchbox in fear that it will combust and set the countryside aflame. We had some rain yesterday (the first in a LONG time)...but not nearly enough. Maybe the whole town should get together and wash our cars. That should do it, right?

I had this same thought. RAIN! We need rain!

On topic, I've never lit a dandelion on fire, but it's interesting to note that it's not extraordinary. Do you think they added something to it to get the nifty colors?

    1. I suspect it's more color balancing in a program like Photoshop. Those aren't natural colors; it looks filtered, like Instagram. The greens in the background have a blueish tint and are aqua in places. Importing it into Photoshop, fixing the greens a bit also gave the flames a bit more natural color.

At least, that's the suspicious photographer in me.

    2. I did a little poking around to try to get back to the source with no luck, but the link trail was taking me through a lot of artsy photography Tumblr blogs, so I'm guessing your suspicions aren't that far off.

  3. Where do you live? You need rain? I'll book my next vacation there. That will guarantee biblical portions of water.

    1. Pretty much anywhere in the southwest...this whole area needs rain! We'll just switch places for a while and let your area dry out and get our area all soaked. :)

    1. Baha. This made me laugh out loud.

I hope you don't mind, I put it in one of my blog posts about fake pins on Pinterest. You can see it here: http://bighuglittlekiss.blogspot.com/2013/07/dispinterest-photoshop-fails-edition.html

  6. aww, wishing it would dr up around here, it rains so much that I feel like I'm drowning!!!!

Yea, I'm not really that sorry that dandelions don't burn beautiful colors because that sure is one boring bucket list... I am thinking of thousands of more interesting bucket list ideas.

  7. Ah yes. We tried that. Quite a few time actually. I'm not sure I could have even gotten a picture it burned so fast. we resorted to burning the yellow ones, which, didn't really burn so much as singe. lol

  8. Some of the photos you found on Google were pretty awesome but I'm with the people who said the photos were photoshopped. We don't have many dandelions around here so I'm glad I didn't spend a lot of time hunting for them to burn. LOL
