Clearing up a few Misconceptions

I know we don't normally post on Sunday as we are usually at church and with friends and family, but I just wanted to put a quick blurb on here clarifying a few common misconceptions.

  1. When we post up a project or a recipe on this site, we are NOT labeling it as bad. The purpose of this site is not to rate the original pin, the purpose of this site is to show that we all make mistakes and that we can learn from other people's mistakes. Combined we can all help each other out. Luckily we get to laugh along the way as well. We have had some upset comments the past little bit saying that just because a project went wrong doesn't mean the project is bad and that they are frustrated to see us condemning the pin. We try so very hard to not condemn any pin (unless it really doesn't work...like the Glow in the Dark Mt. Dew), and we will try even harder to not give the impression that just because we showcase Pinstrosities that the originals were bad to begin with because, again, that is NOT what we are trying to do.
  2. And we again want to reiterate the fact that we do not post up any comments that we receive that contain profanity, vulgarity, rudeness towards anyone, etc. In fact...we do have this notice with our comment boxes: "Comments containing vulgarity, profanity, and/or attacks on writers/readers/commenters/submitters will not be published. Please consider the feelings of others (readers, writers, submitters, etc.) before you post." Constructive criticism, extra tips, kind corrections, etc are welcome. Things that are so disheartening to see (and which are not published): "What kind of idiot would think...", "They're stupid for doing...", etc. Please please please be kind in your comments for the sake of everyone that visits the site. And if you do have a criticism, tip, or suggestion...please read through the post first. We can't tell you how many times we get "You didn't mention doing x, y, or z to fix this" when we indeed did mention x, y, and z.
  3. Content is submitted from people all over the world. We are not the ones doing every single project. We try to test projects as needed and as possible so that we can give more pertinent feedback on how to fix something, but the photos and stories are not all our own. This is a joint resource to help troubleshoot problems and to giggle at mess-ups and to share fun stories. It makes us laugh and shake our head when we receive emails or comments along this line: "You two are terrible crafters/bakers! How do you manage to mess everything up? Maybe you should do something else with your life." I think that people just don't read anymore (and can be a little mean). Or perhaps this is something that we are not very clear about? Are we clear on that or could we be more clear? And, by the way...if you're still reading this...honestly, a huge high five to you and if I could I'd give you an ice cream cone (I LOVE ice cream cones) because reading anything longer than a text message is not a common accomplishment anymore these days.

Moral of the post...be kind and read. I do hope that everyone has a lovely Sunday where ever you are and whatever you are doing. Stay tuned this week for more Pinstrosities, submitted to us by our  wonderful readers who tried out awesome pins and whom I sure will receive scores of upbeat and helpful comments.

  2. I enjoy it, and never viewed it as bashing the original pins. I think it's great - keep up the good work! (Chocolate is my favorite, just in case you were serious about the ice cream.) :-)

  4. I love this blog! I have never seen it as bashing a pin or pinterest in any way shape or form. Trust me, I have had my fair share of pinstrosities and I love seeing other people's. It's not meant to be mean, it's meant to be fun.

  5. seriously? Lighten up people! The bloggers are mostly poking fun at themselves and they thankfully let us share in their mishaps and misadventures.

  6. Haha! Awesome post. I love the site and think it's great how you try to help people get their craft attempts right. And it's funny! Thanks for all your hard work! (And I would like an ice cream cone also...)

  7. Awe I love this blog!! It maked me feel better when I see someone else has had an uh-oh lol! Or when someone helps on an idea!!
Thank you for this place :)

  8. Not only do you two test every single pin, but "Pinterest" apparently invents every single one of them.

  9. I have read every single post on this blog and never once thought you were bashing anyone. Some posts I have thought "me too", or "I've done that" Too bad I hadn't seen this blog first!

The people complaining clearly have not read everything. I wouldn't worry too much about people who crab without having all of the information. Some people just are not happy unless they are making others unhappy. (I do have to admit though, I sometimes wonder why people don't find the original pin and read through it instead of just reading a little blurb under someone else's photo...)

  11. I just love this blog! I think you're all amazing writers, and that the people who submit their Pins are very, very brave indeed :)

    Keep Pinning :)

  12. I love reading this site because I think what goes wrong in projects is just as important as what goes right. I read every post in full to see how to make a project a success :) And let's face it - we've all had craft fails and I view these fails as opportunities to make something often times better and different.

  13. I love this blog and look forward to your new posts daily! I think the people who are so negative don't really take the time to read the posts...just look at the captions and pictures and maybe a word or two while scrolling. That is the ONLY way anyone could ever think that you guys are bashing the pins and that you do all this yourselves...some people just aren't happy unless they are making others unhappy....Big smiles for you guys cause you rock!

  15. Like momma always said "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it". I love this blog and it keeps me entertained. Plus I like seeing that I'm not the only one who messes up Pins!

  17. I'll take you up on the ice cream cone if the opportunity presents itself! As someone who has never commented before, I thought I would take a moment to PINSTROSITY.BLOGSPOT is great! I love seeing what does and doesn't work with the tested pins. Keep up the fabulous posts and let those naysayers be ignored!

  18. Okay, I'm normally a lurker, and very, very seldom post any comments, but this brought me out of my "lurkdom." I LOVE this blog; I love the entries; and I love knowing I am not alone in my ever-abundant pinstrosities. I have never, ever seen this blog bashing any pins, and I have found the posts to be extremely helpful as I attempt some of these recipes and crafts. I think you all are doing an excellent job, and I always look forward to the next post. I should probably share some of my own pinstrosities, but I'm too shy, at this point...maybe in the future!

  19. I think some people are just overly sensitive. It's possible they've been bashed elsewhere and don't take the time to read the full blog, or don't currently have the sense of humor this blog is posted with. I, personally, never saw it as bashing the original pin/post. I always saw it as you and/or your contributors laughing at themselves. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're in a pretty miserable place. :(

  20. I have been addicted to this site for awhile now and I nevered viewed it as being negative. In fact, I am glad this is here because quite a few of the pins I have been wanting to try have been posted and I am collecting a ton of good advice!

Mistakes are part of the learning process and everyone can learn and grow from them ... so why not get a few laughs in along the way?

  21. People do not read anymore. I think it is very clear and evident if YOU READ it that they are sometimes other people's stories. I appreciate the "R&D" you guys go through to try to find suggestions or ways to fix things. For those of us that are craft and baking challenged it puts things in perspective and allows us to NOT feel like total failures if something goes wrong, and to find the humor in it! :-)
    Keep up the good work!

  22. I LOVE your blog and love the fact that there are people out there willing to admit that we are not all Martha Stewart. I appreciate your research and tips and often get a good chuckle at the not so perfect outcomes of the original attempts. Try to ignore those meanies... they likely have some major issues in their life if they make the effort to post rude or mean comments to others who are just sharing their experiences. (and where do I cash in on that ice cream cone... sounds delish :)

  23. I just stumbled upon your site a couple of days ago and am hooked! I love that you give helpful tips on how to fix crafting problems and projects :) Thanks for the tips and laughs!!

  24. Im thankful for this site.. there have been times when Im having a really bad day, and I come on here to find a post that makes me giggle.. and gently reminds me that everyone makes mistakes, or forgets to read all the instructions before doing something... and it makes my day. It also encourages me to keep trying when I mess something up, because chances are Im not the only one who goofed on it.
So thank you for this site, and for everyone who contributes to it!

  25. I already knew everything you posted in this blog. Why? Because I take the time to actually read the entries. Sheesh! I would never bash anything if I had only glanced over it . . .

And I knew your intent was not to make the original pins look bad. Mostly because I have done a ton of Pinterest projects and many of them have been an absolute failure. The worst being the sock bun curls on my daughter who pretty much has the equivalent of two heads of hair. Warning: That pin was not meant for people with super thick hair!! LOL

God bless you guys, you keep me laughing :-)

  26. Sometimes it seems like the only reason some people read blogs and the like is to make other people feel bad. If you ask me, they are the ones who need to doing something else with their lives!

I love this blog because it proves that Pinterest doesn't have to keep us down!

  28. I love this blog! You are so right about no one reading anything more than a length of a text message. It's ridiculous. Keep up the great work!

  29. The first thing you usually say is "if you go back to the original pin..." I'm on a mission to be a good pinned to start with (which is where a lot of problems start) and READ the instructions! I think this sight is lots of fun and it does point out that we should all slow down and remember that long forgotten practice of reading... Please don't be discouraged! Keep up the sharing!

  30. Awe, boo to negative and mean comments. I am a huge fan of your site, and my husband has seen me laugh until I was in tears on many occasions because of some of the posts. I am sure one of these days (when I am not trying to keep up with a little one), you will be receiving g a few of my pintrest oops! Hopefully some of your "readers" will lighten up. Some things should just be fun!!!

  31. all of these points are very clear throughout the blog! i believe that people do not read anymore and just look at the pictures, haha! keep it up - i love seeing the mistakes and learning how to fix them! great job, girls!

  33. Love your blog, I clearly understand your rules, I know that there are as many success as failures in pintrosities, and I too am waiting for an ice cream cone. :)

  34. Stay strong, we need this site as the reality-check on Pinterest. That site is great but sometimes I start to get depressed that my life doesn't look anything like the things I pin. Pinstrosity makes me feel like I can still try. Whenever I need a good laugh, I will go back to some of my faves - like the melted minion - and just giggle.

  35. I love your blog. As a Pinaddict and wannabe crafter/baker/DIYer I think this is one of the most hilarious blogs I've come across. Keep up the great work!
