She gave me directions over the phone (I think as she was driving) and told me to let it boil for 3 hours. After the first hour, most of the water was gone, so I just replaced it, and then left with my roommates to go somewhere, since it has such a long time left. We came back to our smoke alarms going off and half the building outside trying to figure out what was burning. Our apartment smelled like smoke for months!Molly Campbellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04882741884637266125noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6299578764487881408.post-40565731415696299072012-10-05T14:32:01.243-06:002012-10-05T14:32:01.243-06:00I tried this pin a few weeks ago and had to throw ...I tried this pin a few weeks ago and had to throw out the first few pieces of chicken because I followed the directions. I am extremely lucky that no one fell victim to the flying shrapnel when it exploded.

If you use regular or extra-virgin olive oil, it will catch fire sooner than something like peanut oil because it has a low smoke point. Perhaps the original pin used a high-smoke oil. Just for reference, extra *light* olive oil has a very high smoke point. :-)OrganicMechanic2behttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03268811831140149202noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6299578764487881408.post-17291098409759852542012-09-28T09:53:17.798-06:002012-09-28T09:53:17.798-06:00Would you believe we had those for dinner last nig...Would you believe we had those for dinner last night? It only splatters the grease and spreads the fire. For any fire that potentially has grease in it (most kitchen fires) you need to use a smothering agent. Flour or baking soda work beautifully--I've used both at different times. They don't smell too nice, but its better than letting it burn. :)lhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02717843055807658022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6299578764487881408.post-84318998767950767552012-09-27T15:31:16.260-06:002012-09-27T15:31:16.260-06:00When deep frying put a few kernels of popcorn in t...When deep frying put a few kernels of popcorn in the oil...when it pops the oil is ready (pops at about 350 degrees) Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01601264290229970357noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6299578764487881408.post-14355781351518426962012-09-27T14:03:31.215-06:002012-09-27T14:03:31.215-06:00Oh man, sorry to hear that Lyndsey! My parents, though, were given a counter-top deep-fryer (as a wedding gift, maybe? I'm not sure; this was before my time). Dad loves fried calamari. Well, it turns out that they did . . . something wrong. No fires, but they spent hours cleaning oil and squid bits off of the floor, walls, and, yes, ceiling of their small apartment kitchen.Little Black Carhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14313164876855565140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6299578764487881408.post-41717317261558547612012-09-27T11:20:48.957-06:002012-09-27T11:20:48.957-06:00wow that was one pricey pinwow that was one pricey pinLindsey Luhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10405896498112507797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6299578764487881408.post-50133959158954433642012-09-27T09:54:44.899-06:002012-09-27T09:54:44.899-06:00i seriously did that 9 years ago when i was just a...i seriously did that 9 years ago when i was just a newlywed. it was at our apartment and i was trying to make fried cinnamon tortillas. my husband received 3rd degree burns on his arms trying to take the skillet out of the apartment. the fireman gave us directions to a very nice mexican restaurant and we never tried that again! alison allyg24@hotmail.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6299578764487881408.post-19377546067200317862012-09-27T09:03:20.086-06:002012-09-27T09:03:20.086-06:00I tried to set our kitchen on fire a couple weeks ...I tried to set our kitchen on fire a couple weeks ago.
