S'more Please

"You're killing me Smalls!" (Please tell me you can name that movie).

Anyway, Marquette here with a great pin I know you'll want s'more of. GIANT S'more Stuffed Cookies!

The Original Pin
http://smells-like-home.com/2012/05/giant-smores-stuffed-chocolate-chip-cookies/
Who could resist? Betsy couldn't. Betsy tried this out and then sent it in to us.

The Pinstrosity

Betsy did a self diagnoses and told us, "I think it failed because we used pre-made dough from the grocery store - also we let it sit out for like 15 min before we baked

them.....Major fail! Um...also I should have mentioned we had to use chocolate chips in

place of the chocolate bar inside the s'more because we didn't have any
chocolate bars & were too lazy to go to the store...lol."

Without going to the original pin I guessed right there what the problem was and how to fix it.

1. Too often people try substituting and short-cutting on Pinterest projects. The best bet on your first run through of anything is to do it the way the instructions direct first, and then on a later try you can start tweaking the project and using different supplies/ingredients. Store bought Chocolate Cookie Dough is yummy, but I have noticed it does not tend to produce as thick of cookies and the baking time between perfect and hard as a brick is about 30 seconds different. The stuffed cookie recipes do better with a homemade thick dough.

2. And, chocolate bars would have definitely worked better to get the full s'more effect, but I do understand the "I don't want to go to the store right now" feeling and I probably would have tried the same thing. With a thicker dough to hold everything in place the chocolate chips might have worked better.

  1. I tried this the other day too! I also used the premade cookie dough from Sams because I was too lazy to make some. We had a chocolate bar on hand because we were going to try those grilled s'mores but did this instead! (would still like to try the grilled s'mores though!) Anyway, my cookie things turned out very similar to this, just not quite as burnt looking. They were still unbelievably delicious though! Gone in less than a day at my house. I will probably not make these again as they probably had about 5423589087 in each one. haha!

  4. Thank you for your suggestion #1. People blame pinterest for unattainable projects, but it is their shortcutting that is the problem. I almost don't consider it a pinstrosity when they do that, because there technically isn't anything wrong with the pin.

    1. But how many pins do you think are EXACTUALLY how they found out about it? I bet over half the pins are tweaked a little from the original way to do it.

  5. I would agree with VickiLan. I've read through all of your Pinstrosities and, to be honest, if people followed the directions instead of trying to improvise they would have much better results. Do it they way they tell you and you'll be much happier with the outcome.

  6. How funny, I'm watching that with my 2 & 6 year old right now! It's the only thing they watch and that part is just coming on. Just found your blog (through Pinterest of course) and love it.

  7. I bake a lot and I love s'mores cookies. It's never a good idea to get pre-made dough unless you are cooking it to those specifications. I also hate that these are just two large cookies...who the heck wants just two? I took this idea and made it my own, to make a whole bunch of much smaller cookies by using a chocolate chip cookie recipe and adding a bag of small marshmallows...if you really want the graham craker element, bake the dough on top of a 1/2 a graham craker (for no more than 12 min though or they'll burn!) Happy Baking!

  8. I was looking forward to making these for the longest time. having just started weight watchers I was allowing myself a treat and made these for a family dinner. I also made mini ones that were more tall than wide and toppled over in the oven. After many trials on how to best arrange the ingredients I sat on the floor staring in to the oven making sure they turned out right. They weren't pretty. And they weren't as delicious as I had hoped. I unfortunately didn't make my own cookie dough because...well...its so much faster to just use the store kind. Because of the store bought cookie dough the cookies were too oily. And because i hadn't had sweets in a while all the chocolate and cookie-ness gave me a tummy ache. Sigh... at least i'm no longer fantasizing about these. Good old s'mores are the perfect treat.

  9. I've made these too! I did stick to the original recipe and even made the homemade cookie part but it was hard to make them "stick" together and my cookies ended up just falling apart during the baking and melted all over my cookie sheet. They still tasted pretty good but since then I've found a better smores cookie that is amazing!

  10. i made these and they turned out perfect, followed the recipe but put them in the fridge for a bit before baking. also pull them out before they are done, they continue to cook on the cookie sheet

  11. They are just "pillow" cookies. very easy to make. I have made chocolate chip cookies with brownies inside. (amazing!) Just looks like they need more cookie dough on top. Also make sure you lock your insides in well. they make huge cookies, but normally the recipes for them make a lot of dough so you still get a whole batch. Like I said super easy to make if you do it right. Heck my 5 year old niece made a few :P

  12. The first time I made these they completely fell apart which was a fail. My friends and I wanted to try them again and genious struck, using a tub of the store bought cookie dough, graham crackers, mini marshmallows and chocolate and a muffin tin. get a ball of cookie dough and smoosh it into the bottom of the tin, build the smore inside it and cover with another ball of cookie dough that you also smoosh down then just bake til the top cookie starts browning on top. Easy as pie and they didn't last 2 days in my house lol.

  13. I made these as recipe directed w homemade cookie dough and took them to a party and they were a hit! They looked just like the original picture with a beautiful shape and great flavor! I will use it many times to come.

  14. I made these about a week ago and then again two days ago because my family begged me to make them some. The first batch still turned out okay and tasted okay, but the second batch was much better. The dough in the first batch was really sticky-like and I think it's because I used spreadable butter from the tub and didn't refrigerate the dough at all. The second time around I used stick butter and refrigerated the dough as needed to make it easier to handle. All in all, they were a success and turned out great!! Kind of a pain in the butt to make, but well worth it!

  15. I followed the recipe except for decreased the size of the smore. They turned out flat too.

  16. My friend & i just made these! We used store bought cookie dough & ended up leaving it out. They still managed to look like the original pin and were amazing!!

  18. Hi :) I'm 16 and I'm hoping to become a pastry chef. I made these before I saw this post and I only had one problem (I geuss it's considered a problem, depending on who looks at it) :) Anyway, when I made them I added too much cookie dough around the s'mores so they were HUGE! I could only finish half of one but they still tasted amazing!
